About

History

It is a story that starts in 1955 with a group of community members, a modest building on a car park, and a single belief: that a club should give more than it takes. Seventy years later, that belief drives a $400 million organisation, and it has not changed a word.

The names behind the Group

Beyond their masterful rugby league talents, Keith Holman and Keith Barnes were men of integrity. They achieved acknowledgement from their respective countries for their contributions both on and off the field.

Keith Victor Holman MBE

11 September 1927 to 11 October 2011. Australian rugby league halfback. Western Suburbs 1948 to 1961. Named one of the nation’s finest footballers of the 20th century.

Keith Barnes AM

30 October 1934 to 8 April 2024. Known as Golden Boots. Welsh-born Australian rugby league footballer and coach. 194 games for Balmain. Captained Australia in the 1950s and 60s, and later became CEO of the Balmain Tigers.
